What counts as a special character?
Any character that is not a letter, digit, space, or whitespace control character (newline, carriage return, tab) is counted as special. This includes punctuation marks, symbols and emoji.
Is my text stored or sent to a server?
No. All counting happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you type or paste is ever transmitted or stored.
How is the line count calculated?
The tool splits your text on newline characters. An empty input shows 0 lines; a single line of text without pressing Enter shows 1.
