Asking Questions - Do / Does / Is / Are

صياغة الأسئلة في الإنجليزية

Forming questions in English requires inverting the subject and auxiliary verb. Unlike Arabic, you cannot simply raise your voice - the word order must change.

تكوين الأسئلة في الإنجليزية يتطلب تغيير ترتيب الفاعل والفعل المساعد. وعلى خلاف العربية، لا يكفي أن ترفع نبرة صوتك - بل يجب أن يتغير ترتيب الكلمات.

القاعدة النحوية

For yes/no questions with the simple present, move 'do' (I/you/we/they) or 'does' (he/she/it) to the front. The main verb stays as the base form. For 'to be' questions, move 'is', 'are', or 'am' to the front. For Wh- questions (what, where, when, who, why, how), place the question word first, then the auxiliary, then the subject, then the base verb.

في أسئلة نعم/لا في المضارع البسيط، ضع 'do' مع I وyou وwe وthey، أو 'does' مع he وshe وit، في بداية السؤال. ويبقى الفعل الرئيسي في صورته الأساسية. وفي أسئلة 'to be'، ضع 'is' أو 'are' أو 'am' في البداية. أما في أسئلة Wh- مثل what وwhere وwhen وwho وwhy وhow، فتأتي أداة الاستفهام أولاً، ثم الفعل المساعد، ثم الفاعل، ثم الفعل الأساسي.

Common Mistakes

You work here?→Do you work here?

English requires the auxiliary 'do/does' in yes/no questions - rising intonation alone is not enough in formal writing.

تحتاج الإنجليزية إلى الفعل المساعد 'do/does' في أسئلة نعم/لا - ولا تكفي نبرة الصوت المرتفعة وحدها، خاصة في الكتابة الرسمية.

Does she works here?→Does she work here?

After 'does', use the base verb - the '-s' is already on 'does'.

بعد 'does' استخدم الفعل في صورته الأساسية - لأن علامة '-s' موجودة بالفعل في 'does'.

Where you go?→Where do you go?

Wh- questions need the auxiliary 'do/does' after the question word.

تحتاج أسئلة Wh- إلى الفعل المساعد 'do/does' بعد أداة الاستفهام.
